Love the Mediterranean repeats its presence at the Palma International Boat Show with new days of social and environmental impact

Updated: May 16

For the second consecutive year, Love the Mediterranean has participated in the Palma International Boat Show thanks to the invitation of @palmasuperyachtvillage. From April 30 to May 3, we organized educational and awareness-raising days that brought together students, visitors, experts and allies around action for the Mediterranean.

Prior to the event, and as part of our commitment to reducing waste, we installed a water purifier from @Water Without Waste on board the Galaxie, which allowed us to eliminate the use of plastic bottles during the days of the PIBS. Thanks to this collaboration, we estimate a reduction of 12 1.5 liter bottles per day, which is equivalent to 3 kg of CO₂ avoided and 18 liters of purified water per day. In events like this, with high attendance, this impact is multiplied. We deeply appreciate your support.

During the days, in collaboration with @CleanBoating, an initiative promoted by SeaTeach with its @'Escoles Blaves' project; with them we shared space in front of the Galaxie and on board it to receive several educational centers: on Wednesday Sant Bonaventura Llucmajor, IES Alcúdia and Col·legi Francesc de Borja Moll participated; and on Friday, Col·legi Lluís Vives.

We held workshops on circular economy, reuse and creativity, where young people made key chains with recycled cork and reflected on the impact of waste on the sea.

On board, the @Phoenix One team explained the silent technology of the electric motor, and the @TrueWorld technical team gave workshops on marine biodiversity and conservation of the Balearic coastline. We also shared with the students the story of the Galaxie (a sailboat that has sailed around the world and participated in international regattas and work for and with young people for years) as a unique example of engine conversion, as well as a boat with sailing training and social action, through the Joves Navegants project. A project that lives on through our social and environmental impact outings.

The tour included a display of scientific equipment used in participatory science expeditions to map marine debris. The technology on board the Galaxie allowed for a small workshop where the children could tinker.

We also received a visit from the @Centre Nàutic Pesquer de Palma. The school received the old Galaxie engine as a donation, which it used in its training practices, thus extending its useful life and following circular economy principles.

Along these same lines, we explain the sustainable Eco Sails candles from @Quantum Sails, made with recycled fabrics and designed to extend the useful life of recycled materials, reinforcing the idea of a more responsible nautical lifestyle aligned with the principles of Love the Mediterranean.

In the Mediterranean Rights axis, we made available to the public information materials about the Pacte Blau initiative, promoted by the Marilles Foundation, which promotes the effective protection of 10% of the Balearic Sea. And its wonderful posters of the fauna and flora of the Balearic coast. Some of which were given to the schoolchildren who visited us.

We also received visits from allied initiatives such as @infinity_expedition, who interviewed our team and learned firsthand about Galaxie's model of positive impact trips; and @sailforearth, with whom we raise a common flag for marine conservation and responsible navigation.

Our captain Raimon was interviewed by @RNE, where he explained the vision of competitive sustainability that guides this project, and the importance of maintaining support for initiatives like this so that they can continue to grow. Likewise, the students of Col·legi Lluís Vives shared on the radio their experience aboard the Galaxie and their impression of the workshops they received; highlighting the biodiversity workshop offered by our oceanographer Àngela.

The Love the Mediterranean initiative has flourished thanks to the generous support of a dedicated network of sponsors and collaborators. Banca March, as principal sponsor, enabled the launch of key educational and scientific programmes. Berrow Projects, a sustainable property developer based in Sóller, provided financial backing aligned with its low-impact ethos. Phoenix One led the full conversion of S/Y Galaxie to 100% electric propulsion, while Quantum Sails delivered custom EcoSERIES sails crafted from recycled materials. Julia Pinturas and Hempel contributed biocide-free antifouling solutions that promote cleaner, healthier seas.

OmniAccess ensured seamless high-speed connectivity at sea via Starlink, enabling real-time research and communication. Marina Ibiza and the IPM Group provided a home port for Galaxie, while The Islander helped amplify visibility through targeted media coverage. We also proudly debuted the Water Without Waste onboard filtration system, eliminating the need for single-use plastics. And finally, a special thanks to the entire team at Palma Superyacht Village for hosting Galaxie for the second consecutive year in a prime location at the heart of the show.

Thanks to everyone who makes it possible.
