Med Gardens and Observadores del Mar organised a series of 'marine citizen science' and 'underwater forest' events across Mallorca. The objective of these events was to actively involve the public in sea exploration and climate action through educational activities and hands-on experiences.
The experience offered a variety of activities catering to different interests. Across the three days, participants engaged in expert-led lectures and practical experiences, including coastal activities and underwater exploration through snorkeling and diving. An additional surface activity was also available for those preferring to stay above water.
Participants had the unique opportunity to embark on a journey aboard the Life&Sea catamaran, in collaboration with TrueWorld. During this voyage around the Bay of Palma, they learned about marine protected areas, guided by experts from the Marilles Foundation.
Every piece of data contributed to citizen science enriches the pool of knowledge, which then guides decision-making in governing bodies. Simultaneously, the heightened awareness fosters a collective societal commitment towards enhanced marine conservation.
